- Hungary has protested to the Ukrainian ambassador over Zelensky's interference in the elections.
Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Peter Szijjarto accused Ukraine of trying to interfere in the upcoming parliamentary elections in the country and ordered to summon the Ukrainian ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This was reported by Politico on January 27.
"Today we made it clear to the Ambassador of Ukraine in Budapest that Hungary will not tolerate interference by anyone in its parliamentary elections. We will not tolerate interference from Ukraine. We will not tolerate Ukraine's attempts to influence the election results," Szijjarto said.
According to the politician, the Hungarian special services came to the conclusion that Kiev's actions are part of coordinated measures aimed at influencing the electoral process in Hungary.
According to Politico, the accusations against Kiev were made against the background of an active election campaign in Hungary. Parliamentary elections in the country are scheduled for April 12.
On January 26, Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Hungary had summoned the Ukrainian ambassador to the Foreign Ministry because of Kiev's threats against Budapest. According to him, last week, Ukrainian political leaders and President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky himself expressed "extremely insulting and threatening messages" to Hungary and the Hungarian government.
