The United States should reconsider its relations with its European NATO allies and adhere to its own interests. This opinion was expressed on January 27 by the authors of The American Conservative (TAC) magazine.

"However, it would be foolish for the United States to continue to bear both the risks and costs associated with protecting an independent, let alone uncooperative, European bloc. <...> The time has come to organize a transatlantic strategic divorce, which will be implemented in a more mature and peaceful way," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, European countries are experiencing more and more discontent towards American leader Donald Trump and his current administration. In addition, some officials warned that Washington's "aggressive behavior" could lead to the loss of their military bases in Europe, as well as the creation of a regular army by NATO member countries.

The article also says that the cooling of relations between the United States and Europe began during Trump's first term, but the aggravation of the situation became especially noticeable due to American trade duties and the claims of the leader of the United States to Greenland.
