German automaker Volkswagen has initiated a recall campaign for 44,551 electric vehicles in the United States due to the potential risk of battery fires. This was reported on January 27 by the Reuters news agency, citing the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

"As part of the recall campaign affecting 43,881 Volkswagen ID.4 electric vehicles for the 2023-2025 model years, the battery may overheat, which increases the risk of fire. <...> In addition, 670 electric vehicles of the 2023-2024 model years will be recalled due to the incorrect location of the electrodes in some batteries," the NHTSA said in a statement.

We are talking about two separate recall campaigns related to the malfunction of the battery pack in electric vehicles model ID.4.

The Traffic Management Department said that Volkswagen dealers will update the software for free, or diagnose and replace the batteries in all electric vehicles that have been recalled.

In September last year, Reuters learned that Chrysler Stellantis had recalled about 92,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles in the United States due to a software error in the hybrid's control processor.

In August 2025, it also became known that the number of recall campaigns of the Ford concern has exceeded a hundred since the beginning of the year, and now the brand is the leader in this indicator.
