Germany urged to look for new partners against the background of the destruction of existing alliances

Germany should actively seek new international partners in the context of the transformation of the global order and the weakening of traditional alliances, including relations with the United States. This was announced on January 27 by German Economy Minister Katharina Reiche.

"The world has become more uncertain, and the alliances we trusted and relied on are starting to crumble. This does not mean that they need to be abandoned, but cooperation is becoming more difficult. In these circumstances, Germany should first of all look for new partners," Reiche said, speaking at the Handelsblatt economic Forum, as quoted by Reuters.

According to the head of the German Economy Ministry, the country should strengthen economic ties with India, Canada, Australia, South American countries, as well as the Middle East. In her opinion, the formation of new economic unions can play a key role in stimulating the German economy.

Reiche noted that in the next two years, the German economy is expected to grow mainly due to investments in defense and infrastructure, while external economic instability persists.

According to Reuters, the minister's statements reflect the growing uncertainty in Europe about the future role of the United States against the background of trade decisions by the American administration. In particular, US President Donald Trump had previously imposed duties on Canada and EU countries, and also announced his intention to establish control over Greenland, citing national security interests.

Alice Weidel, co-chair of the German Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, noted in an interview with Hallo Meinung on January 26 that Chancellor Friedrich Merz's policy had led to Germany losing its influence in the new world order.
