The World Health Organization (WHO) assessed the low risk of further spread of the Nipah virus, but stressed that due to the lack of knowledge of the virus, there is a possibility of its spread. This was stated on January 27 by Tarik Zhazarevich, the official representative of the WHO in Geneva, in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"At the moment, there is no evidence of an increase in human—to-human transmission of the virus," Zhazarevich said.

According to him, the organization is actively cooperating with Indian medical institutions to assess the epidemiological risks associated with the identified cases of infection. WHO provides technical assistance and analyzes the current sanitary and epidemiological situation in the country.

The national and regional health authorities of India continue to jointly develop public response measures aimed at localizing the infection and preventing its further spread.

On January 25, Rospotrebnadzor reported no cases of the Nipah virus being imported from India. The press service also added that the Nipah virus can be transmitted to humans from animals, such as bats or pigs.
