A man died in a sunken car on Lake Baikal
A passenger car fell through thin ice on Lake Baikal. The man who was driving died.
The incident occurred on January 26 in the delta of the Selenga River in Kabansky district of Buryatia. According to the IrkutskMedia news agency, the Honda CR-V car drove onto the weak ice and collapsed. The passenger managed to get to the surface. The driver died.
Rescuers made a dive to a depth of 6 m. The man's body was handed over to the police.
In the Chukotka Autonomous Region on January 4, a snowmobile with an attached sled fell through the ice on its way towards the village of Lavrentia. There was a 39-year-old woman and a child in the sleigh. As a result of the incident, the child died of hypothermia.
