Over the past day, 245 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 23 people were killed and 268 injured. 20 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on January 27 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

So, in the early morning in Omsk, a 37-year-old passenger car driver decided to skip an adjustable railway crossing at a forbidding traffic light, but collided with an electric locomotive of a freight train. The driver died. The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded motorists of the importance of observing the rules of passage of railway crossings, since this maneuver is considered dangerous and requires the driver to concentrate and pay maximum attention.

Such accidents most often occur at unregulated crossings, where drivers, not convinced of the safety of the maneuver, try to drive in front of a nearby train. Trying to gain a few seconds of travel, they often endanger not only their own lives, but also the lives and health of their own passengers, railway staff, passengers of commuter trains and long-distance trains, the department noted.

In addition, 14 bus accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which there were no fatalities, but 18 road users, including two children, needed medical attention. The cause of nine incidents were traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

As a result of 88 accidents involving pedestrians, three people were killed, and 87 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured are 10 child pedestrians, six of them were injured when crossing the roadway in designated places. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 52 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 36 outside their area of operation.

18 accidents involving minors were registered, in which 18 young road users, including eight passengers, were injured. There are no dead children.

The State Traffic Inspectorate urged motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations and be more careful when driving, especially in the morning and evening. Drivers were reminded to strictly observe the rules for the safe transportation of children and to take care of young passengers, preventing even the prerequisites for a possible tragedy.

"In addition, when approaching intersections and unregulated pedestrian crossings, we recommend that motorists slow down to the minimum speed in advance in order to have time to stop and allow pedestrians to pass. Do not rush to start moving even when the traffic light allows you to do so — first make sure that the pedestrian crossing in front of you is completely free," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

On January 23, it was reported that Moscow had broken its own historical record for road safety. The number of people killed in road accidents per 100,000 population (the social risk level) decreased by the end of 2025 to 2.22 units, said Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of the capital for transport.
