The death toll from the snowstorm in the United States rose to 34
The death toll in the United States due to a powerful snow storm has risen to 34 people. This was reported on January 26 by the USA Today newspaper.
"Due to dangerous conditions, 34 deaths have been recorded so far in 14 states, including nine in New York, four in Tennessee, three each in Pennsylvania, Texas and Louisiana, two each in Arkansas, Massachusetts and Mississippi, and one each in Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, South Carolina and New Jersey," the message says.
According to the publication, ice, freezing rain and snow began to fall on the southern states from Texas to Kansas on January 23, and on January 25 shifted to the east, bringing severe weather conditions from the Carolinas to New York.
It adds that the storm caused massive power outages and created extremely dangerous conditions on the roads. Low temperatures are expected to last for a week, which increases the health risks for people left without electricity or shelter.
ABC News TV channel, citing data from the National Weather Service, reported on the same day that in some places the height of the snow cover formed in the eastern United States is 40 cm. The bad weather, as it was emphasized, led to the cancellation of over 11 thousand flights at that time.
A day earlier, CNN reported that at least seven people had died in the United States due to abnormal frosts. On the same day, it became known that 14 US states and the District of Columbia had declared a state of emergency due to the impending extreme cold and heavy snowfall. The day before, the Associated Press reported that the death toll from the winter storm in the United States had increased to 30 people.
Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and Special presidential Envoy for Investment and Economic cooperation, commenting on January 26 on what is happening in the United States, recommended Mamdani to learn from Moscow how to effectively harvest precipitation.
