French lawmakers have voted to ban social media for people under the age of 15.
Deputies of the French National Assembly voted to ban the use of social networks by people under the age of 15, Bloomberg reported on January 27.
"French lawmakers have passed a bill prohibiting children under the age of 15 from accessing social media," the article says.
According to the agency, after an overnight meeting, the National Assembly adopted the bill by 130 votes to 21. It will now be sent to the Senate, the upper house of the French parliament, before it takes effect.
Lawmakers hope that the ban on the use of social networks will take effect before the start of the new school year in the fall. The list of sites closed to teenagers under 15 will include Snapchat, Instagram (owned by Meta, whose activities are recognized as extremist in Russia and banned) and TikTok.
In Australia, in December 2025, for the first time in the world, a law banning the use of social networks by children under the age of 16 entered into force. Facebook instagrammed platforms such as TikTok, Alphabet, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook (which are also owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).
