Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov checked the performance of combat missions in the zone of a special military operation by the Zapad group of forces. This was announced on January 27 by the Russian Defense Ministry.

"At the command post of one of the formations, the Chief of the General Staff heard a report from the commander of the group, Colonel-General Sergei Kuzovlev, on the situation in the area of responsibility, as well as reports from the commanders of the formations and the commanders of the formations on the results of combat missions," the statement said.

Following the inspection, Valery Gerasimov noted the success of the units and gave instructions for further actions. At the end of the work, the Chief of the General Staff presented state awards to the most distinguished servicemen and thanked them for their courage and bravery shown during the fighting.
