The Russian Zapad group of troops in the special military operation zone near Kupyansk has blocked an area measuring 4 by 6 km, with up to 800 Ukrainian militants remaining in it. This was announced on January 27 by Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, during an inspection of the Zapad group of forces.
"In general, up to 800 soldiers of the Ukrainian units remain in the blocked area, which is a 4 by 6 km area," Gerasimov said.
He also said that the Zapad group is actively fighting in the villages of Kovsharovka and Glushkovka in the Kharkiv region. In addition, the Vostok group is advancing in the eastern part of the Zaporizhia region and creating a security zone in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Gerasimov noted the successes of the Russian military, gave instructions for further actions and presented state awards to the most distinguished, thanking them for their courage and bravery.
The commander of the Zapad group of forces, Colonel-General Sergei Kuzovlev, announced on January 16 that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) had not abandoned their plan to recapture Kupyansk, but their offensive operations in the period from November to December last year were unsuccessful. When asked by the head of the Ministry of Defense, Valery Belousov, whether Kupyansk is in the process of being cleaned up, the commander of the group of troops clarified that the territory of the settlement is under the control of the Russian army.
