The Russian Embassy called Estonia's territorial claims unacceptable.

Estonia's territorial claims against Russia over the Pechora region of the Pskov Region are absolutely unacceptable. This was announced on January 27 by Kamran Abilov, Charge d'affaires of Russia in Tallinn.

"The Pechora district of the Pskov Region is an integral part of the Russian Federation, and in this regard, provocative attacks containing, in fact, territorial claims against Russia are absolutely unacceptable," the diplomat said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Abilov recalled the statement by Estonian Foreign Minister Igor Taro in 2025. The minister then announced the solution to a "long-standing problem" that he had encountered while still a journalist. In the passports of two Estonian citizens, the Pechora region, where they were born, "became" part of the Republic of Estonia.
