- Moscow city services are working in an enhanced mode due to the expected snowfall
In Moscow, city services have switched to an enhanced mode of operation due to the predicted heavy snowfall. This was announced on Monday, January 26, by the Deputy Mayor of the capital for Housing and Communal Services and landscaping, Peter Biryukov.
According to forecasters, heavy precipitation will begin after 21:00 on Monday, January 26, and last until January 29, with the largest amount of snow expected on January 27-28. Such weather conditions can lead to snowdrifts and ice, so emergency crews from engineering services and prefectures will be on duty around the clock.
Biryukov noted that public utilities are constantly monitoring the road network and, as snow falls, will carry out mechanized cleaning of the roadway, sidewalks and yards with mandatory deicing treatment. The deputy mayor also urged residents of the capital to be attentive and careful on roads and sidewalks, and, if possible, to refrain from traveling by private transport during the snowfall, the Moscow City News agency reports.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that heavy snowfall would cover the Moscow region on the evening of January 26. In connection with the forecast, a "yellow" danger level has been announced, which will be in effect in Moscow from 02:00 to 22:00 on Tuesday, January 27, and in the Moscow region it will be introduced from 22:00 on the 27th and until 21:00 on Wednesday, January 28, Moscow 24 notes.
