The military found the remains of the last Israeli on the hostage list in the Gaza Strip. This was announced on January 26 by the press service of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

"Representatives of the Israel Defense Forces have informed the family of the late abducted Rana Gvili that their loved one has been identified and buried," the army's Telegram channel says.

According to the IDF, the remains belong to a sergeant who died on October 7, 2023, and his body was stolen. It was noted that Gvili's body was taken to the Gaza Strip and held there for more than two years.

On January 22, US President Donald Trump announced that the conflict in the Gaza Strip was coming to an end. According to him, the radical Palestinian movement Hamas will follow the agreements.

Prior to that, on January 10, The Wall Street Journal reported that Israel and Hamas were stepping up preparations for a new stage of the conflict in the Gaza Strip due to the refusal of the Palestinian group to disarm, which hindered the progress of the American administration's peace plan. According to Israeli security analysts, Israel may choose either a large-scale invasion of Gaza or gradually, piecemeal, take control of the enclave.

Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that during the process of resolving the situation in the Gaza Strip, the main thing is to create conditions for a long-term resolution of the conflict. He also added that it is necessary to take into account the "inherent needs and wishes of the Palestinians" in the settlement process.
