It will take a week to install and connect the main transmission poles in the Murmansk region.

It will take at least a week to fully restore power supply in Murmansk and Severomorsk. This was stated by the governor of the region, Andrei Chibis, during an operational meeting.

On Monday, January 26, by two o'clock in the afternoon, two temporary wooden poles of a power transmission line were installed near Murmansk. Measures to start the power supply according to the temporary scheme are paramount. According to the optimistic scenario, they will end on the morning of January 27.

At the same time, specialists are working on the installation of permanent metal supports. Some of the structures are delivered by all-terrain vehicles, and a helicopter is involved.

"It will take a week to fully complete the installation and connection of the main pillars. The main thing now is safety and reliability," the governor said.

On January 23, five transmission towers collapsed in the Murmansk region. Two of them have been in operation for about 60 years, two for 44 years, and one for 38 years. Massive power outages affected different areas of Murmansk, as well as Severomorsk. On January 25, due to the protracted nature of the accident, an emergency regime was introduced in the Murmansk region.

Despite the fact that the collapsed pillars were located about 15 km from Murmansk, it was extremely difficult to reach them during a snowstorm and squally winds, Bi-port news agency notes. The heavy parts of the new supports were dragged onto the hills with an excavator, and in the most difficult areas — almost manually. It was not possible to install the first temporary support on the first attempt, but a helicopter helped to install the second one, which was able to take off after the weather conditions improved.

The power engineers are working in extremely difficult conditions. Measures to restore power supply are continuing. A criminal case on negligence initiated by investigators after the collapse of power transmission poles is also being investigated.
