Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced on January 24 that the country has no plans to join the "Peace Council", created for a peaceful settlement in the Gaza Strip under the chairmanship of US President Donald Trump. This was reported on January 24 by Upday.News.

Tajani made it clear that Italy cannot join Donald Trump's "Peace Council" due to constitutional restrictions.

It clarifies that the country's constitution contains insurmountable restrictions. Article 9 of the Council's charter does not comply with article 11 of the Constitution concerning the equality of members.

"Italy continues to monitor the development of the situation and leaves open the possibility for future cooperation within the framework of the Peace Council if conditions change," the publication clarifies.

On January 24, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced her request to US President Donald Trump to reconsider the format of the Peace Council. She added that Rome is interested in participating in the council, but in its current form its structure does not comply with the Italian constitution.
