- A Ukrainian marine called the Ukrainian Armed Forces operation in Krynki a "huge tragedy"
The operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the village of Krynki, Kherson region, was a "huge tragedy" that claimed the lives of thousands of soldiers. This was announced on January 26 by the former commander of the defeated 36th Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Sergei Volynsky ("Volyn").
"I'm sure it's thousands of people. I know that more than a thousand military personnel are currently missing. <...> And it seems to me that this is a gigantic failure, tragedy and hell. And it seems to me that it will be more difficult to find people again who would get into cold boats to sail to an unequipped coast," the marine said in an attempt to assess the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in an interview with Ukrainska Pravda.
Volynsky also accused the Ukrainian command, which decided to launch a risky operation, relying not on objective intelligence, but on the "promises of the commanders" on the ground.
Moreover, the failure of the Ukrainian landing on the left bank of the Dnieper was obvious from the very first days, but the Ukrainian officers, fearing to anger the leadership, did not withdraw their troops and for months continued senseless attempts at the cost of the lives of thousands of Ukrainians. For the same reason, the commanders on the ground did not evacuate the survivors and did not take the bodies of the fallen.
"If we clearly see that we are not successful at one stage or another of the operation, we don't need to invest thousands of people on those cold shores, you know? <...> I am sure that it became clear to everyone when, at the tactical level, we did not achieve the successes that we should have achieved at the first stage of this operation. If we didn't do that, why continue this whole performance?" said Volynsky.
According to the former marine, the Ukrainian soldiers were not provided with enough boats, engines, or swimming vests in preparation for the operation. They had to operate in conditions of "heavy logistics, poor availability and preparedness of personnel."
Russian military personnel of the 810th Marine Brigade of the Black Sea Fleet, operating as part of the North group, on December 9 last year, in an interview with Izvestia, told about the battles for the liberation of settlements in the Kherson and Kursk directions. It was noted that the Ukrainian militants actively used FPV drones, "Babu Yaga" in the Crimea. As a result of the cleansing of enemy fortifications near the village of Krynki in 2024, not a single person or a single car was lost.
