The Russian, a 42-year-old man, was riding in a group of three people, Sport-Express said. Two other snowboarders managed to descend the mountain unharmed, they were not injured.
Rescuers went in search of the missing man on Monday morning. The man was found unconscious, and later doctors pronounced him dead.
In November 2025, an avalanche in South Tyrol killed five climbers from Germany. The tragedy occurred on the northern slope of the Verteinspitze peak (Cima Vertana) with a height of more than 3.5 thousand m. Groups of climbers — seven people in total — climbed the mountain at different times and independently of each other. Two participants managed to survive, they were evacuated to the Bolzano hospital by helicopter.
