Panzhinsky assessed the chances of skiers Korostelev and Nepryaeva for Olympic medals
Olympic silver medalist in cross-country skiing Alexander Panzhinsky expressed confidence on January 26 that Russian skiers Savely Korostelev and Daria Nepryaeva have a chance to medal at the Olympic Games in Italy.
"I believe that the marathon races, which will be held in the last days of the Olympics in the classical style, and the skiathlons, which will be held in the first days of the Olympic Games, will give Korostelev and Nepryaeva the greatest opportunities to compete for medals. There are chances for this," RIA Novosti quoted Panzhinsky as saying.
The expert stressed that the athletes have nowhere to retreat to — Moscow and the whole country are behind them.
At the moment, Korostelev, Nepryaeva and Nikita Denisov have a neutral status, which allows them to participate in competitions. In the last start at the World Cup in Goma, Savely and Daria took eighth place in the mass start.
Earlier, on January 24, State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova expressed the opinion that the non-participation of Russian athletes in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games could benefit them.
