Kiev still hopes to join the European Union (EU) as soon as possible, despite the failures in the negotiation process. This was announced by Taras Kachka, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, in an interview with the Financial Times.

"For Ukraine, as for Europe, it is important to get a very clear political commitment that Ukraine will join the European Union as soon as possible, and ideally with a specific date," the Ukrainian politician said.

Kachka believes that the process of granting membership can be accelerated "in the context of geopolitical urgency," but acknowledged that the date of joining the EU "has not yet been agreed."

It is noted that Kiev does not lose hope, despite the continuing disagreements among EU member states on Ukraine's accession to the bloc and easing the requirements for a candidate in exchange for reducing the political rights of Ukrainian representatives in the bloc.

The day before, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that Ukraine could join the EU in 2027. According to the Serbian leader, disagreements remain within the European Union on this issue, and not all countries are ready to support such a decision.

Ukraine submitted an official application for EU membership in 2022, after which it received candidate status. However, the negative position of a number of countries, including Hungary, prevents Kiev from starting negotiations on joining the bloc. Critics fear that Ukraine's integration will harm the economic interests of European farmers in particular. In addition, Hungary emphasizes that Kiev still does not meet any of the criteria for EU membership, and its admission to the European bloc would mean the entry of Europeans into a military conflict.
