Russian scientists have found a new way to reduce the accident rate of hazardous industries and monitor the progress of chemical reactions: this has become possible thanks to kinetic monitoring. This was reported to Izvestia on January 26 at the Southern Federal University (SFU).

Scientists from three scientific centers participated in the development of the technology — the International Research Institute of Intelligent Materials of the Southern Federal University, the Faculty of Chemistry of Moscow State University and the International Tomographic Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"The ability to in-line kinetic monitoring — using nuclear magnetic resonance — in real time without stopping the process, sampling and opening the reactor under pressure will allow you to quickly (within minutes, not hours) select the optimal temperature, pressure, and contact time," explained the SFU.

It is specified that the technology minimizes risks by working with small volumes of the reaction mixture in a closed system, which is especially important for processes using toxic and explosive gases. The SFU added that this reduces the likelihood of accidents and increases safety in hazardous chemical industries.

In addition, as a result of the introduction of a new diagnostic technique, we can also expect to reduce the total work time at the stage of optimizing the parameters of laboratory, pilot and industrial installations by up to 30% by eliminating manual operations, as well as simplifying sample preparation and information about the kinetics of the process. It is noted that the study was carried out with the support of the Russian Science Foundation.

In October last year, the government's commission on draft laws approved a bill aimed at prohibiting private employment agencies from sending workers to hazardous industries of hazard classes I and II. The purpose of this bill is to improve occupational safety and reduce the risk of injury.
