A strong craving for chocolate in winter is a natural reaction of the body to seasonal changes, and not a sign of weak willpower. This statement was made on January 26 by the endocrinologist of the SM Clinic Anna OderiyГазете.Ru ".

"One of the key factors is the lack of light. Reducing daylight hours affects the production of serotonin and melatonin, which leads to increased fatigue, decreased mood, and the search for quick sources of pleasure," she explained.

According to Oderia, decreased physical activity and changes in diet also have an impact on the desire for sweets: in winter, the variety of foods decreases, meals are skipped more often, and nutrition shifts towards fast carbohydrates.

"Chocolate is attractive for a reason. This product is unique in its composition: sugar instantly activates pleasure centers, fats give a feeling of fullness and comfort, theobromine gently stimulates the nervous system, and phenylethylamine affects mood," the endocrinologist emphasized.

The specialist added that an obsessive craving for sweets can signal chronic fatigue, a shortage of calories or nutrients, emotional burnout or irregular eating. To maintain balance, she recommends including proteins, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates in every meal, and if you want sweet things, choose alternatives like sugar-free cocoa, yogurt with nuts, or fruit.

Audrey also dispelled popular myths: chocolate cravings are not a sign of magnesium deficiency, chocolate does not treat stress, and moderate consumption is acceptable as part of a balanced diet.

"Moderation and mindfulness remain the main principles of a healthy attitude towards sweets: do not eat it on an empty stomach, follow a diet plan, include enough protein and fat in your diet, and allow yourself chocolate in reasonable quantities without feeling guilty," she concluded.

Earlier, on January 25, it was reported that the appearance of edema after eating can be an alarming signal indicating hidden health problems. Irina Volgina, Associate Professor of the Department of Therapy at the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, said that in a healthy person, foods that do not contain toxic substances cannot cause puffiness.
