Nuclear weapons guarantee the protection of the country's sovereignty. This was announced on January 26 by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, in an interview with Kommersant.

"Humanity has not come up with any other way to guarantee the protection of its country, its sovereignty and interests," Medvedev stressed.

He added that the current instability and rift in the world order are forcing countries to look for effective ways to protect themselves and did not rule out that the nuclear club will expand.

Earlier, on January 25, it was reported that Russia was allowing exercises with Belarus to test the use of non-strategic nuclear weapons. In June 2024, Minsk already took part in similar maneuvers, and joint training for the combat use of weapons was being worked out. If necessary, such exercises are possible in the future.
