The Russian authorities were proactive when they restricted the work of Meta (recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation) and WhatsApp. This opinion was expressed on January 25 by Evgeny Masharov, a member of the commission of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation for the public examination of draft laws and other regulations.

"The lawsuit filed by a group of plaintiffs from different countries against Meta Corporation, which contains claims that the company violated the privacy of WhatsApp users, shows that the Russian authorities were proactive," he told TASS.
