The situation around Greenland indicates that the Arctic is becoming a new fault line between the West and the East. This was announced on January 25 by Alexei Pushkov, a member of the Constitutional Committee of the Federation Council, in his Telegram channel.

"The story around Greenland suggests that in 2026 the Arctic is coming to the fore as a region of geopolitical rivalry and becoming a new fault line between the geopolitical West and the geopolitical East," the senator wrote.

According to him, US President Donald Trump's policy of annexing Greenland "is not a strange whim," but is aimed at strengthening Washington's position, since it is the location of the island and access to the Arctic and the Northern Sea Route that are of key interest to the United States.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that Greenland is of great importance from the point of view of strategic stability and security. The Kremlin also said that the Russian military will closely monitor US plans to create a missile defense system and the possible deployment of its elements in the region.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
