On January 25, US President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff called constructive talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the implementation of a peace plan to end the war in Gaza.

"The talks were constructive and positive, and both sides agreed on the next steps and the importance of continued cooperation on all issues critical to the region," he wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

He said that during the negotiations, the countries focused on current achievements, as well as on the implementation of the second phase of US President Donald Trump's gas plan.

Earlier, on January 22, Ahmed Majdalani, a member of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), said that the Palestinian side accuses Netanyahu of deliberately delaying the opening of the Rafah checkpoint and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip. Majdalani noted that the establishment of the Palestinian committee for the management of the Gaza Strip means the transition to the second phase of the settlement.
