The number of homes in the United States left without electricity amid a snowstorm has exceeded 500 thousand. This was confirmed on January 25 by data from the Poweroutage outage monitoring service.

The total number of outages exceeded 523 thousand: the states of Tennessee (128 thousand), Texas (126 thousand), Mississippi (114 thousand) and Louisiana (85 thousand) accounted for the most.

The American authorities also warned of heavy snowfalls and a sharp drop in temperature. US President Donald Trump said that emergency services have been put on high alert.

Earlier in the day, ABC News reported that due to an impending snowstorm and extreme cold, at least 18 US states had declared a state of emergency. At the same time, almost 12,000 flights in the United States were canceled due to a snowstorm. It was noted that the governors of the states declare an emergency due to the weather conditions.
