American rock climber Alex Honnold climbed the Taipei 101 skyscraper with a height of more than 500 m in Taiwan without insurance. This was reported on January 25 by Channel NewsAsia (CNA).

The climb took the climber about two hours.

As he progressed, eyewitnesses supported Honnold, including from the observation deck on the 89th floor of the building.

Taipei 101 has become a symbol of Taiwan's national pride and scientific and technological progress ahead of its time. The official opening ceremony of the $1.6 billion building took place on the eve of 2004. The first skyscraper to cross the 500-meter mark in the new millennium held the title of world height record holder until it was taken away by Dubai's Burj Khalifa (829.8 m). But many other records remained with the Taiwanese One O One.

In August 2024, in Paris, a man climbed the north side of the Eiffel Tower, but was stopped by police officers halfway there. Videos posted on social media show a bare-chested "rock climber" climbing without insurance, bypassing the Olympic rings installed on the tower.
