The leader of the Fair Russia party, Sergei Mironov, proposed reducing the value-added tax on socially important goods and expanding their list. He announced this on January 25.

"I suggest that the government ... support the population by expanding the list of preferential goods and reducing the tax rate for them," Mironov said.

He noted that the list of goods with a preferential VAT rate of 10% needs to be reviewed.

"For example, for some reason, processed vegetables and a number of other popular products were not included in it... canned peas, mayonnaise, tea, or frozen beans," he told RIA Novosti.

Earlier, on January 20, it was reported that State Duma deputies had developed an initiative according to which it was proposed to limit the increase in fees for housing and communal services to the amount of inflation. According to the draft, tariff increases should not exceed the inflation rate set by the federal budget, which will help reduce the debt burden on families and regional budgets.
