Afonin proposed to temporarily exempt students from paying for the hostel
State Duma deputies from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation proposed to exempt state-funded students from dorm fees until their scholarship reaches the subsistence level. This became known on January 25.
"Today, the situation with housing for students and the level of dorm fees stands in stark contrast not only to the Soviet period, but also to basic concepts of social justice: in many leading universities, the amount of fees for accommodation and utilities is already comparable to or even exceeds the entire scholarship," said Yuri Afonin, First Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to him, the implementation of the initiative will protect students from the depreciation of their income and make education more affordable for poor families. The deputies sent a corresponding appeal to the Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov.
Earlier, on January 21, it was reported that LDPR leader Leonid Slutsky proposed to legislate a single standard for student dormitories. In his opinion, no more than three people should live in one room, and it is also necessary to provide transparent mechanisms for monitoring the cleanliness of the premises. In addition, dormitories must be fully electrified with a sufficient number of secure outlets and provided with stable high-speed internet.
