Solar activity can interfere with the operation of terrestrial equipment, from power grids to household appliances. This was announced on January 25 by Svyatoslav Litvinov, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Radioelectronic Systems and Complexes at RTU MIREA. "Газете.Ru ".

"Solar flares and geomagnetic storms cause induced currents in conductors, which can overload high-voltage transformers and lead to power outages," he explained.

According to Litvinov, in addition to electrical networks, communications are suffering: bursts of X-ray radiation increase ionization in the ionosphere, which impairs radio broadcasting, mobile communications and satellite Internet, creating the risk of losing control over smart home systems.

The expert noted that modern power systems and communication networks are designed taking into account solar storms, and monitoring solar activity allows you to estimate their capacity in advance and prepare for possible disruptions.

"The degree of impact directly depends on the power of the event and the level of readiness of engineering systems for such challenges," concluded Litvinov.

Earlier, on January 14, it was reported that the demand for multifunctional household appliances in Russia continues to grow — more than half of buyers (55%) consider universal models to be a great way to save space in an apartment. It was noted that current trends show that the issue of rational use of space is of concern to the majority of Russians.
