The Federation Council recalled payments to pensioners of preferential categories
Pensioners from among the privileged categories are entitled to monthly cash payments and social security supplements for pensions with incomes below the subsistence level. This was announced on January 25 by Senator Natalia Melnikova, former head of the Pskov Region department of the Social Fund.
According to her, one of the main support measures is a monthly cash payment, which is provided to certain categories of citizens.
"It is provided by the Social Fund of the Russian Federation to certain categories of citizens from among veterans, disabled people, including children with disabilities, heroes, former prisoners of fascism, people affected by radiation, and other categories," Melnikova explained to RIA Novosti.
The senator clarified that if a pensioner has the right to several such payments, only one is assigned — the largest amount. In addition, there is a social supplement to a pension with a low income level.
"If the amount of material security, taking into account the assigned pension and additional benefits, does not reach the minimum subsistence level of a pensioner in his region of residence, he is entitled to a federal or regional social supplement to the pension," she added.
Earlier, on January 20, it was reported that all non-working pensioners with incomes below the regional subsistence level are eligible for a federal or regional social supplement. Since 2026, these payments have been assigned and paid by the territorial offices of the Social Fund of Russia, with the exception of Moscow and the Sakhalin Region. When calculating income, pensions, monthly cash payments and other support measures are taken into account, and the supplement itself is assigned automatically without submitting applications.
