The mother of the deceased Russian swimmer Nikolai Svechnikov returned to Moscow after the body was identified. This was announced on January 25 by a source of Izvestia.

According to the woman, the date of the swimmer's funeral is still unknown, but preparations for them will begin soon.

It is noted that additional examinations are planned in Russia.

The day before, it became known that the plane with the body of the deceased Svechnikov arrived at the capital's Vnukovo airport. The intention of the Svechnikov family to take his body to Russia became known on January 22. Alyona Karaman, a relative of the athlete, said that the athlete's parents had already identified his body.

The man's body was discovered in the Bosphorus Strait on January 20. At the same time, the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Istanbul requested a DNA examination to establish his identity. On January 22, CNN Turk reported that DNA testing had confirmed that the body found in the Bosphorus Strait belonged to Svechnikov.

The Russian athlete disappeared on August 24 last year. Svechnikov did not reach the finish line through the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul. After swimming 500-600 m, the swimmer disappeared from sight.
