375 illegal migrants detained in St. Petersburg and Leningrad region
In St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, Interior Ministry officers detained 280 illegal migrants during a preventive raid at the points of one of the supermarket chains and 95 more migrants at one of the distribution centers. This was announced on January 24 in the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia by regions.
"87 vehicles and 380 citizens were checked on the territory of the distribution center itself, 95 foreigners were taken to the territorial police department. <...> As a result of visits to 139 supermarkets <...>, 570 citizens were checked by the police, 280 of them were taken to the police stations," the department's Telegram channel said.
It is noted that all the detainees will be brought to administrative responsibility.
The raid itself was aimed at verifying the legality of the stay of foreign citizens in Russia. It was attended by 1,414 police officers and employees of the Russian Guard.
