The Russian delegation at the negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict defends the basic understandings reached during the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump in Anchorage. This was announced on January 24 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.

"We are making every effort to ensure that during the contacts that have been going on almost continuously in various formats in recent days, a settlement scheme has been worked out that fully corresponds to the basic understandings of the presidents of Russia and the United States reached during their meeting in Anchorage," TASS quoted him as saying.

At the same time, the diplomat did not disclose the course of the negotiation process, noting that it was unproductive and irresponsible.

On the same day, Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky said that representatives of the United States, Russia and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi had discussed a lot, and called the talks constructive. He added that he appreciates the awareness of the need for American monitoring and control over the process of ending the conflict.

Axios journalist Barak Ravid, in turn, citing Ukrainian officials, said that the next round of negotiations on Ukraine in Abu Dhabi could take place next week. According to his interlocutors, the talks in Abu Dhabi were "positive" and "constructive."

As Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, reported, high-ranking representatives of the Ministry of Defense are involved in the trilateral negotiations from Russia.
