Former German Chancellor warned of the danger of "demonization" of Russia
Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder warned against "demonizing" Russia because of the military operation in Ukraine. He wrote about this in a guest article in the Berliner Zeitung newspaper on January 23.
"However, I am also against the demonization of Russia as an eternal enemy. Russia is not a country of barbarians, but a country with a great culture and diverse historical ties with Germany," he said.
He added that the importance of the exchange of resources between Russia and Europe should also not be underestimated. According to him, European countries need this cooperation. In addition, he noted that it is necessary to use all diplomatic means to end the conflict in Ukraine.
Earlier, on January 6, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, following the summit of the coalition of the Willing in Paris, said that Ukraine and its Western allies would have to compromise for a peaceful settlement of the crisis. During his speech, the Chancellor did not say what kind of concessions he had in mind.
