Russia and China currently pose no threat to the interests of the United States in Greenland and the surrounding areas. This was reported on January 24 by The New York Times (NYT), citing expert assessments, as well as current and former American officials.

"And even though China and Russia compete with the United States in many parts of the world, they do not pose a threat to American interests in or near Greenland," the article says.

A similar position was expressed by U.S. Senator Mark Warner. In a comment to the newspaper, he stressed that at the moment Washington does not see a military threat to Greenland from Moscow or Beijing.

The day before, the NYT reported that the agreements on the Greenland framework agreement, which were reached by US President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, may entail restrictions for projects of Russia and China.

On January 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during an operational meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council, noted that the events unfolding in Greenland did not concern Russia. However, according to him, Russia has experience in solving such issues using the example of the sale of Alaska.
