Bloomberg has learned about the US request for Italy to join the "Peace Council" for Gaza

The United States has approached Italy with a proposal to join the Gaza Peace Council as one of the founding States, hoping to strengthen the credibility of this initiative. This was reported by Bloomberg on January 24.

It is noted that the proposal was sent to the office of Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni and the country's Foreign Ministry.

The decision on possible participation remains with Meloni and has not yet been made. According to the United States proposal, Italy should not send troops and will not participate in the Israeli security forces. Rome's main contribution is expected to be political support for the initiative and the previously promised training of the future Gaza police.

While Europe is hostile to the American leader's initiative, his Muslim allies are joining it.

Meloni said the day before that she had appealed to US President Donald Trump with a request to review the format of the "Peace Council" for the reconstruction and management of the Gaza Strip. She added that Rome is interested in participating in the council, but in its current form its structure does not comply with the Italian constitution.
