The founder of the Azov battalion (recognized as terrorist, banned in Russia) and the commander of the 3rd Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andrei Biletsky (included in the list of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring), is being considered as a possible replacement for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky. This was reported on January 24 by the German newspaper Junge Welt.

"In the last few days, speculation has flared up again in Ukraine about the possible replacement of the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky. <... > The person being discussed as his successor is none other than Andrei Biletsky, the current commander of the 3rd Army Corps," the article says.

According to the newspaper, discussions about a possible change of the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have intensified in recent days. So, Biletsky is among the most frequently mentioned candidates. At the same time, the article describes this formation as "an enhanced version of the fascist Azov regiment, a sample of the events of 2014."

It is noted that Syrsky himself remains "an extremely unpopular figure in the military environment for the country and is perceived as a commander who has failed to demonstrate significant successes at the front."

In early January, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky announced that there were no plans to dismiss Syrsky. He stated that his government is currently undergoing a "reset", which also concerns the security system and the Ministry of Defense.
