- The Russian Foreign Ministry reported on the need to resolve the territorial issue in Ukraine.
To resolve the conflict in Ukraine, it is necessary to address the root causes of the crisis caused by the West and eliminate security threats. This statement was made on January 24 by Alexey Polishchuk, Director of the Second CIS Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"The main thing now — and this was stated at the meeting with the Americans on January 22-23 — is the resolution of the territorial issue according to the Anchorage formula, without which a long—term settlement is unattainable," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
Polishchuk also said that Ukraine must return to the origins of its statehood, adopt a non-aligned, neutral and nuclear-free status, restore respect for linguistic and religious human rights and freedoms, ethnic Russians, Russian-speaking citizens and national minorities, and abandon neo-Nazi ideology.
"It is also necessary to eradicate the root causes of the crisis created with the participation of the West, to eliminate the security threats it has generated," Polishchuk said.
He concluded that at the same time it is necessary to respect the self-determination of the inhabitants of the regions reunited with Russia.
Earlier, on January 23, Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky said that the issue of Donbass would be discussed at a trilateral meeting with representatives of Russia, the United States and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi.
