Global Times reported on China's position on the Arctic

China does not consider the Arctic as an arena of geopolitical rivalry. Beijing's main focus is on maintaining peace, stability and sustainable development in the region. This was reported on January 22 by the Chinese newspaper Global Times.

"The Arctic is based on the common interests of the international community. China's activities in the Arctic comply with international law. The right and freedom of countries to operate in the Arctic in accordance with the law must be fully respected," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said in a statement.
