The Pentagon called Greenland a key US territory for military access.
The U.S. Department of War (or the Pentagon) has repeatedly named Greenland as one of the key U.S. territories to which military and commercial access is guaranteed. This became known on January 23 from the new defense strategy of the United States.
"As stated in the National Security Strategy, the United States will no longer cede access to or influence over key territories in the Western Hemisphere. Therefore, the strategy will provide the president with compelling options to guarantee U.S. military and commercial access to key territories... especially to Greenland, the Gulf of America and the Panama Canal," the strategy says.
It is noted that this will allow the US authorities to comply with the "Monroe Doctrine."
