The situation with the likely successors of US President Donald Trump has not changed significantly yet. Malek Dudakov, an American political scientist, told about this on Friday, January 23.

According to the expert, the current Vice President of the United States, Jay Dee Vance, is leading among the Republican electorate in public opinion polls by a huge margin. He has about 50% of the support of voters, and if the primaries were held tomorrow, the politician would have won, Dudakov believes. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Florida Governor Ron Desantis are currently competing for second place. They both have about 10-15% of the votes, he added.

According to the Americanist, Vance will win the Republican primaries in 2028 quite easily, and the main struggle will unfold for the place of the vice presidential candidate to him.

"It could be Marco Rubio. He started the year quite successfully, considering that he was in charge of the operation to capture [the Venezuelan president]. Nicolas Maduro, and now Cuba and Venezuela are turning into his pocket project. Or maybe Kristy Noam, the current head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. She is in charge of the deportation raids in the United States, and is conducting the current escalation in Minnesota," the political scientist explained in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

Dudakov said that the first candidates will start running for president immediately after the congressional elections. He believes that in December 2026, the first Democrats who want to challenge Trump's policies will be nominated.

"Perhaps the first one will be Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, who is currently leading the Democratic Party in the presidential primaries. Later, in 2027, Republican candidates will be nominated, and in early 2028, the active phase of the primaries of both parties will begin," he concluded.

Earlier, on January 22, Trump said that the Republican Party already has a "strong bench" of politicians who could run for the 2028 elections and continue his political legacy, RT reports.

The American leader singled out Vice President Jay Dee Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Besent. 360.ru .

Trump also confirmed that he does not plan to run for a third term in 2028, citing the restrictions set by the US constitution, and is focused on the current term.

Earlier, on January 21, the American leader said during a speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos that the conflict in Ukraine would not have started if the 2020 presidential elections had not been rigged in favor of the Democratic Party.
