KLM airline has stopped flights over the Middle East due to rising tensions
Dutch airline KLM has temporarily suspended flights to some Middle Eastern destinations due to rising tensions in the region. This was reported on January 23 by the news portal NU.nl .
"KLM Airlines is suspending flights to a number of destinations in the Middle East due to growing tensions in the region. The airline announced the temporary suspension of flights over Iran, Iraq, Israel and several Persian Gulf countries," the publication says.
The company noted that the decision was made against the background of the "geopolitical situation." All scheduled flights to these destinations have been cancelled.
It is noted that the airline usually consults with the Dutch government before making appropriate decisions. It is currently unclear how long the restrictions will last.
Earlier, on January 12, tourists were blocked in the Finnish part of Lapland after flights were canceled due to a sharp drop in temperature to -37 degrees. Flights to London, Manchester, Paris and Amsterdam were cancelled due to bad weather. Kitill Airport, which is located in Lapland, serves tourists by providing them with beds and meals. According to forecasts of the Finnish Meteorological Institute, in the future the temperature may drop sharply to almost -40 degrees.
