On Friday and next weekend, January 23-25, traffic police officers will conduct massive and continuous checks on the country's roads, with special attention paid to the search for drunk drivers. The raids were announced by the regional departments of the State Traffic Inspectorate.

Raids on drunk motorists will take place both in Moscow and in the Kirov, Lipetsk, Smolensk, Ivanovo, Kaluga, Ulyanovsk regions and other regions.

The State Traffic Inspectorate recalled that driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as refusing a medical examination, entail disqualification for a period of one and a half to two years and a heavy fine. In addition, in some cases, the driver is already facing criminal liability.

"We remind you about the inadmissibility of driving while intoxicated. Do not risk your life, as well as the lives of your passengers and other road users, by getting behind the wheel after drinking alcohol. We urge citizens who have witnessed that the driver is behaving inappropriately on the road, creating dangerous situations on the road, to report this to the police. All necessary response measures will be taken based on this information. Such a message can save someone's life," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Earlier that day, it was reported that a bill had been submitted to the State Duma, which proposes to optimize the activities of Traffic police officers in terms of reducing the number of procedural documents they draw up when registering drunk drivers.
