The Unified State Exam (USE) should be gradually abolished in Russia. Such an initiative was made on January 23 by the Vice-Speaker of the State Duma (State Duma) Peter Tolstoy.

"I believe that it is necessary to consistently cancel the Unified State Exam and return the traditional education system consisting of final and entrance exams," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

According to the Vice Speaker, the Unified State Exam, like the entire Bologna education system, is a borrowing of the Western model. At the same time, Tolstoy noted that the Unified State Exam and the OGE are elements of a system focused on the Bologna format. He clarified that it is necessary to reform not only the Bologna system, which has already been decided to revise, but also the entire educational model based on Western patterns.

In November last year, the head of Rosobrnadzor, Anzor Muzaev, said that in Russia the Unified State Exam would be canceled only in the case of a worthy alternative replacement. According to him, currently no one can offer such an alternative. Muzaev also recalled a statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who recognized the disadvantages of the Unified State Exam and emphasized the need to improve the exam.
