Narcologist warned about a new dangerous trend among teenagers
Vitaly Holdin, chief freelance specialist, psychiatrist and narcologist at the Ministry of Health of the Moscow Region, said that a new dangerous trend has emerged among young people - the use of veterinary drugs.
The Moscow Regional Clinical Narcological Dispensary explained that such experiments can lead to serious health consequences, Radio 1 reported on Friday, January 23.
Taking medications for animals by humans can cause psychological disorders, including suicidal thoughts, as well as toxic effects on the body and various allergic reactions. Holdin noted that such drugs can cause drowsiness, dizziness, impaired coordination and confusion, and when combined with alcohol or other medications, respiratory depression and even coma.
The expert stressed that even though the components are similar to "human" medicines, the use of veterinary drugs is dangerous and can have serious consequences for the psyche and the body as a whole.
Psychiatrist and narcologist Vasily Shurov on January 13, in an interview with 360.ru He stated that in ordinary pharmacies such drugs with gabapentin are sold strictly by prescription, but in veterinary and marketplaces — without it. He added that parents should be alarmed by the child's inhibited behavior, similar to "drunken" speech and almost complete refusal to eat. He called for building trusting relationships with children and explaining the harm of drugs to them.
On January 12, Sergei Leonov, head of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection and deputy head of the LDPR faction, said that in Russia they want to ban children from buying veterinary drugs containing substances with an intoxicating effect on marketplaces. Provided that their human counterparts are available by prescription, the website writes kp.ru .
At the same time, marketplaces began to withdraw veterinary medicines from sale after reports of poisoning of teenagers. User safety is mentioned as motivation. According to sources, we are talking about drugs based on gabalentin. It is used to treat seizures, writes NSN.
