In several regions of the United States, amid warnings of an impending powerful winter storm, there is a rush in demand for food and drinking water. On January 23, videos and photos of empty shelves in stores are being distributed on social networks.

Residents of the country purchase water, bread, as well as fresh vegetables and fruits in large quantities. At the same time, social media users ironically note in the comments that such products have a limited shelf life and it is impractical to store them for a long time.

According to the Associated Press, energy companies have placed thousands of employees on high alert. Flights have been cancelled at a number of airports. According to meteorologists, the storm can cause serious damage to infrastructure, large-scale power outages and a sharp drop in air temperature.

Earlier in the day, it became known that more than 235 million people in more than 40 US states — from Arizona to Maine — are on the path of a large-scale winter storm, which is expected to cover over 2,000 miles and bring heavy snow and ice on Friday. It is noted that by 5:00 on Friday Moscow time, almost 1.3 thousand flights across the country have already been canceled until Saturday, and thousands more are planned to be canceled before the beginning of next week.
