European countries want the conflict in Ukraine to continue, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on January 23.

"The main European countries want to continue [the conflict] in Ukraine. Brussels does not want peace, at least in Ukraine. And that's the problem," in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

The politician noted that all European efforts are aimed at the intention to prolong military operations further. Budapest, in turn, refuses to participate in the financing, and also does not want to continue arming the Ukrainian regime, as this does not contribute to peace.

The Times newspaper reported on January 9 that France and the United Kingdom are ready to send up to 15,000 troops to Ukraine as a peacekeeping contingent after a possible peace agreement. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on January 8 that the West's plan to militarize Ukraine was aimed at escalating the conflict.

On January 5, Orban stated that Hungary does not intend to finance Ukraine in 2026 and opposes loans from the European Union (EU) for these purposes.
