Ukraine wants to influence the results of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Hungary, because it understands that the current government will not allow its entry into the European Union (EU). This was announced on January 23 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

"I think that in the next hundred years Hungary will not have a parliament that would vote for Ukrainians to join the European Union," he said.

Orban added that the change of the Hungarian government is in the fundamental interests of Ukrainians, and Budapest will fight this.

"That was the case four years ago, when they campaigned for our opponents, and it's happening now, because they know perfectly well that a pro-Ukrainian government can only appear in Hungary if they get us out of the way," Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto recalled.

In addition, Orban noted that Hungary is not against financing Kiev from those who wish it, but he stressed that these actions should not destroy the European Union.

"We are not against anyone being able to give money to Ukraine. But why is it necessary to destroy the European Union for this? The European Union is dealing with its own affairs, the affairs of its member states, and if someone wants to give money to Ukraine, let them do it outside the EU, in an intergovernmental format. This is our proposal. On a voluntary basis," Orban concluded.

Zoltan Koshkovich, an analyst at the Hungarian Center for Fundamental Rights, said on the same day that the speech of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Davos showed his panic. According to him, Zelensky's behavior is an extremely unethical interference in the Hungarian elections.

Orban said on January 22 that Budapest would not be able to come to an understanding with Kiev, commenting on Zelensky's words that the Hungarian prime minister was allegedly "trying to sell European interests" and therefore "deserves a slap on the head." He also reiterated that Hungary would not send military aid to Ukraine.
